titleOfInvention | Emulsion polymerization method |
abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a (co) polymer latex capable of obtaining a small (ultra-fine) particle size. A method for producing ultrafine hydrophobic latex polymer or copolymer particles by free radical emulsion polymerization, wherein the dimer acts as a chain transfer agent (CTA) for polymerizing or copolymerizing a monomer or monomer mixture, respectively. And at least one compound selected from the group consisting of: and a cobalt complex, wherein the latex particles have an average particle size of less than 100 nm, the average particle size being 10% greater than that produced in the absence of the CTA. In the above case, the polymerization is carried out in an aqueous reaction in the presence of a chain transfer agent and a surfactant, wherein the surfactant is 5 to 25% by weight for a nonionic surfactant or 0.05% for an ionic surfactant. A process characterized in that it is present in a concentration relative to said monomer or monomer mixture of from 10 to 10% by weight. |
