PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and inexpensively produce 2-benzylbenzoic acid, which is an intermediate in the production of antiallergic drugs, by using a general-purpose equipment under a low hydrogen pressure by an industrially easy method. I will provide a. SOLUTION: By catalytically reducing 2-benzoylbenzoic acid in an isopropyl alcohol solvent using a 2-10 wt% palladium-carbon catalyst under a hydrogen pressure of 8-12 kg / cm2, 2- benzylbenzoic acid is converted to 2-benzylbenzoic acid. It can be obtained easily and in good yield. The desired product can be obtained in good yield with a much smaller amount of catalyst than in the prior art. In addition, the reduction reaction of the present method proceeds under a medium hydrogen pressure, and a general-purpose reactor can be used, which is advantageous in terms of equipment cost. |
