(57) [Problem] To produce an aromatic compound having a hydroxyl group in a short time and easily. SOLUTION: 0.5 to 2 per 100% by weight of tannin. After adding formic acid 13 at a ratio of 00% by weight to one or both of the tannin 11 and water 12 in powder form, the tannin is maintained in a supercritical state of water and the tannin is thermally hydrolyzed to thereby aromatize the tannin. A group compound is produced. The alkali metal hydroxide 16 or carbonate may be further added to one or both of the powdered tannin and water. |
