abstract (57) Abstract: A method for producing an intermediate of a 19-nor-vitamin D compound is provided. SOLUTION: The formula: [Wherein X 1 and X 2 may be the same or different; A phosphine oxide of the formula: Wherein X 1 and X 2 each represent a hydroxy protecting group. The 4-hydroxy group of quinic acid is removed and the resulting dehydroxylated compound is converted to a compound of the formula Wherein X 1 and X 2 are as defined above, and the ketone is condensed to give the following formula: Wherein X 1 and X 2 are as defined above, and the ester is reduced to give the following formula: Wherein X 1 and X 2 are as defined above, and converting the alcohol to the phosphine oxide described above.
