abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing (S) -2-amino-5-methoxytetralin by using 5-methoxy-2-tetralone as a starting material. SOLUTION: A 5-methoxy-2-tetralone is reductively aminated with ammonia in a suitable solvent in the presence of a suitable catalytic reduction catalyst to obtain a racemic 2-amino-5-methoxytetralin, Then, in a suitable solvent, Optical resolution by using an appropriate optically active organic acid, Further, the above problem is solved by racemizing an optically active form of 2-amino-5-methoxytetralin under a hydrogen atmosphere using a catalytic reduction catalyst.
