abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method capable of producing an aromatic dihydroxy compound efficiently and at low cost, in which the reaction temperature is easily controlled. SOLUTION: In a reaction tank 1, phenols are reacted with hydrogen peroxide in a suspension bed system in the presence of a solid catalyst in a solvent to produce an aromatic dihydroxy compound, and sedimentation separation operation from the reaction solution is performed in a sedimentation tank 3. The solid catalyst is separated and returned to the reaction vessel 1 by distillation, the solvent and the raw material are separated from the separated liquid in the distillation towers 4 and 5 and returned to the reaction step, and the aromatic liquid as a product is separated from the separated liquid in the distillation tower 6. The dihydroxy compound is separated, and the separated product is purified in tanks 7 and 8 to produce an aromatic dihydroxy compound. |
