titleOfInvention Clock synchronous dynamic memory
abstract (57) [Summary] To reduce current consumption in a data holding mode in which only refresh operations are repeated. In a synchronous dynamic memory, a clock input buffer for inputting and distributing an external clock therein, a command input buffer for inputting a command, an address input buffer for inputting an address, and a data input buffer for inputting data are provided. In the normal operation mode, the clock input buffer stores the command, address, A clock is supplied to the data input buffer. In a data holding mode such as a power down mode, the clock input buffer supplies a clock to the command input buffer. The clock is not supplied to the address and data input buffers. According to such a memory, in the data holding mode, the external clock is supplied to the command input buffer, so that a refresh command can be input to perform a self-refresh operation. Since the supply to the buffer is not performed, the current consumption accompanying the supply can be reduced.
