abstract (57) Abstract: An optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus capable of recording a signal on a disk by a laser emitted from an optical pickup. SOLUTION: A signal is recorded on a disk at a prescribed speed and a plurality of high speeds set to different multiples from the prescribed speed, and a test signal is written to a test writing area provided on an inner peripheral side of the disk. An optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus configured to set a laser output for performing a recording operation by recording / reproducing a laser output corresponding to a maximum speed and a speed one stage lower than the maximum speed before performing the recording operation. Perform the setting operation.
