[PROBLEMS] To provide an inexpensive and large-capacity electrode material for an electrochemical capacitor and an electrochemical capacitor. SOLUTION: An electrode material is composed of a titanium oxide or a hydrated oxide or a hydride thereof containing at least a redox-reducible metal element, and an X-ray diffraction image showing an amorphous diffraction pattern. This is used to make the electrodes of the electrochemical capacitor. In producing the electrode material, fine particles are prepared by evaporation to dryness, a coprecipitation method, or a sol-gel method using titanium and a redox-reducible metal salt, alkoxide or chelate as raw materials, and firing the fine particles. After the fine particles of the electrode material are produced by the above-described method, an electrochemical treatment in which a charge / discharge cycle is repeated in an organic electrolytic solution using a lithium salt as an electrolyte is performed. |
