PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition in which a layered inorganic compound is dispersed in nano order with high productivity, and to provide the thermoplastic resin composition. SOLUTION: (A) A thermoplastic resin and (B) an organically modified layered inorganic compound having an organic substance between layers by intercalation and holding a dispersion medium at 20 to 90% by weight are combined and melt-kneaded. A method for producing a thermoplastic resin composition, In addition, the thermoplastic resin contains 0.01 to 100 parts by weight of the layered inorganic compound per 100 parts by weight thereof, and a peak on the d (001) plane due to the layered inorganic compound is observed by X-ray diffraction.
