(57) [Summary] (Modifications) [PROBLEMS] To provide a composition which effectively suppresses bone growth associated with surgery in a mammal such as a human, and a method for producing the same. A biocompatible anionic polymer is applied to sites that are at risk for fibrosis, tine formation and surgical adhesions. The anionic polymer is selected from the group consisting of dextran sulfate, alginate and pentosan polysulfate. These are administered using natural collagen, denatured collagen or dextran as a carrier. Anionic polymers effectively inhibit cell invasion and bone growth associated with undesirable healing processes. The effectiveness of an anionic polymer is related to the negative charge density of the polymer. |
