abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble metal working oil agent which is excellent in machinability and grindability, has good penetration and defoaming properties, and can contribute to improvement of productivity. SOLUTION: The water-soluble metal working oil agent comprises at least one ester type nonionic surfactant represented by the following structural formula (1). Structural formula (1) R 1 COO (EO) m (PO) n H (1) wherein R 1 is a branched alkyl group having 7 to 26 carbon atoms, and EO is- A CH 2 CH 2 —O— group, PO is a —CH 2 C (CH 3 ) HO— group, m is an integer of 2 to 50, and n is an integer of 0 to 10.
