PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful intermediate for the production of vitamin A, Z-3-methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol in a mixture of Z and E stereoisomers. E-3- Provided is a method for catalytically isomerizing to methylpent-2-en-4-yn-1-ol. SOLUTION: In a two-phase system of an aqueous phase and a stereoisomer mixture phase, wherein the stereoisomer mixture is optionally present in a substantially water-immiscible organic solvent, a bromine radical is used as an isomerization catalyst. Mix the reaction mixture at a temperature between -10 <0> C and about 100 <0> C. |
