titleOfInvention Magnetic head and magnetic information recording / reproducing apparatus using the same
abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the characteristics of a magnetic head provided with a magnetoresistive element for flowing a current perpendicular to a film surface. SOLUTION: An element cross-sectional area when observed along a direction perpendicular to the surface of a substrate on which a yoke 4 and a magnetoresistive element 3 are formed is set to 30% or more of a yoke area, thereby suppressing an increase in resistance of the element cross-sectional area. A magnetoresistive element may be formed on a substrate, and a yoke may be formed on the element. The free layer of the magnetoresistive element has a configuration in which two or more magnetic films and one or more nonmagnetic films are alternately laminated, and the thickness of the nonmagnetic film is 2 nm or more and 10 n m or less, the magnetostatic coupling may be dominant. A magnetic gap may be provided adjacent to the magnetoresistive element, and the magnetic film may be antiferromagnetically coupled.
