(57) [Summary] [Purpose] In alkaline alkanoate reaction solvent N-acetylparaaminophenol is produced by contacting 4-hydroxyacetophenone oxime with a Beckmann rearrangement catalyst. The present invention provides a method for preparing 4-hydroxyacetophenone oxime by reacting 4-hydroxyacetophenone with a hydroxylamine salt and a base, extracting the oxime product from the resulting reaction mixture with a substantially water-immiscible solvent, And contacting a substantially water-immiscible solvent with a Beckmann rearrangement catalyst to produce N-acetyl paraaminophenol. A new Beckmann rearrangement catalyst is used to limit the formation of by-products in ester solvents. |
