abstract (57) [Summary] [Problem] To prevent damage to hair caused during permanent wave treatment, and to improve the wave-forming ability, by simply applying the composition to a hair that has already been damaged before the permanent wave treatment. The present invention provides a permanent wave pretreatment agent capable of increasing the elasticity of hair, imparting elasticity to hair, and further enhancing the effect of retaining waves. SOLUTION: A permanent wave pretreatment agent is constituted by containing 0.1 to 20% by weight or more of hydrolyzed keratin having an average molecular weight of 9000 to 50,000. The permanent wave pretreatment agent preferably contains 0.01 to 5% by weight of a dimethyldiallylammonium chloride / acrylic acid copolymer or a dimethyldiallylammonium chloride / acrylic acid / acrylamide terpolymer.
