abstract [PROBLEMS] To provide a lithium secondary battery separator excellent in battery characteristics such as cycle characteristics and low-temperature characteristics, and a lithium secondary battery using the same. SOLUTION: This is a battery separator comprising a porous film having a large number of penetrating micropores, wherein the porous film is at least one metal selected from the group consisting of silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide and zinc oxide. The present invention relates to a battery separator characterized by containing basic inorganic fine particles having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 8 μm containing an oxide as a main component, and a lithium secondary battery using the same.
