abstract (57) [Summary] (Problem corrected) [Problem] A paper coating liquid having improved high-speed coating properties due to insufficient water retention and an increase in high shear viscosity, prevention of deterioration in surface properties of coated paper, and improved viscosity, and this coating. Provided is a coated paper in which a liquid is applied to improve physical properties such as improvement of gravure halftone dot loss, surface smoothness, printability, picking resistance and gloss. SOLUTION: (A) (Meth) acrylic acid unit, (B) (Meth) acrylic acid ester unit, and (C) as a thickener for a paper coating liquid containing a pigment and a binder as basic components. A coating liquid containing a copolymer comprising at least one monomer selected from the compounds represented by the following general formulas (I) and (II). Coated paper in which a coating film of this coating liquid is formed on a paper base material surface. (R 1 is H or a methyl group, R 2 is a divalent hydrocarbon group or a carbonyl group, R 3 is a hydrocarbon group having 8 to 30 carbon atoms, m is 0 Or 1, n is an integer of 10 to 100)
