abstract |
[PROBLEMS] To provide a viscosity index improver excellent in coking resistance and a lubricating oil composition using the same. An oil-soluble polyalkylene (thio) ether derivative (A) satisfying the following (i) and (ii), wherein the (A) has an activity in the presence of a potassium hydroxide catalyst having a sodium content of 500 ppm or less. A viscosity index improver obtained by subjecting a hydrogen-containing compound to ring-opening addition polymerization of one or more monomers selected from cyclic (thio) ether, epihalohydrin and glycidyl ether. And a lubricating oil composition using the same. (I) Number average molecular weight of 11,000 to 250,000 (ii) Solubility parameter of 8.6 to 9.4 |
