titleOfInvention | Improvements in or related to image formation |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe invention is imageable by exposure to thermal radiation and comprises: (a) a substrate; (b) a dispersed phase comprising a water-insoluble thermosoftening component, a continuous phase comprising a component soluble or swellable in an aqueous medium; An imaging layer containing a substance capable of strongly absorbing radiation and transferring energy to the dispersed phase as heat to cause at least partial aggregation of the coating; and (c) the imaging layer at the wavelength of exposure. A radiation-sensitive plate having an optical density lower than the optical density and including a top cover layer containing a combination of a dispersed phase and a continuous phase or a polymer resin soluble or dispersible in an aqueous medium. An image forming method is also provided. The present invention overcomes the difficulties associated with surface overheating observed with prior art materials and provides printing plates that exhibit improved press performance. |
