titleOfInvention Extravasation detection
abstract (57) [Summary] [Problem] To determine the presence of extravasation at an early stage. The medical extravasation device has an electrode patch that can be attached to the skin and sense electrical information. From the signal of the electrode patch, the tissue impedance is calculated. The patch has an elongated pickup electrode closer to the center than the elongated current-carrying electrode. The measurement area, which is determined by the elongated space between the pickup electrodes, increases sensitivity and specificity. By interpreting the measurement of tissue impedance, the presence of extravasation is determined. The method of determining extravasation includes a first step of determining a pre-injection baseline measurement of tissue impedance. The tissue impedance is then monitored during the procedure itself. A predetermined amount of change in tissue impedance is determined to indicate extravasation.
