titleOfInvention Plant-optimized gene encoding pesticidal toxin
abstract (57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to materials and methods useful for controlling pests, especially plant pests. More specifically, the present invention provides plant-optimized polynucleotide sequences encoding pesticidal toxins (full-length and truncated). Truncated polynucleotide sequences can be used to produce truncated toxins, or to produce fusion (or chimeric) genes and proteins. The polynucleotide sequences of the present invention have certain modifications as compared to the wild-type sequence and are therefore particularly well suited for optimized expression in plants. Using the techniques known in the art, the polynucleotide sequences described herein can be used to transfer a polynucleotide sequence described herein to a plant to confer pest resistance on the plant. The present invention further provides plant-optimized polynucleotide sequences encoding a C-terminal protoxin site that can be used with a gene encoding a truncated core toxin to produce a full-length toxin. Further, the present invention provides preferred amino acid sequences encoded by the plant optimized polynucleotides disclosed herein.
