abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides a process for preparing onium hydroxide from the corresponding onium salt and purifying the onium hydroxide, which comprises providing an electrochemical cell comprising a cathode, an anode, a divider and a bipolar membrane. Wherein, the bipolar membrane has an anion selective side facing the anode and a cation selective side facing the cathode, wherein the divider is located between the cathode and the bipolar membrane, and the bipolar membrane is associated with the divider.
