abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst activator useful for activating a metal complex of a Group 3-10 metal for the polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer, preferably an olefin. The present invention provides a composition comprising a mixture of aluminum containing Lewis acids, the mixture has the formula: [(- AlQ 1 -O-) z (-AlAr f -O-) z '] (Ar f z "Al 2 Q 1 6-z ") wherein Q 1 is selected from C 1-20 alkyl independently in each case; the Ar f is a fluorinated aromatic hydrocarbyl group having carbon atoms of 6-30; z is 1 -50, preferably 1.5-40, more and is preferably a number from 2-30, and the group (-AlQ 1 -O-) is a cyclic or linear oligomer with a repeat unit of 2-30; z 'it is 1-50, preferably 1.5-40, more preferably an number of 2-30, and the group (-AlAr f -O-) in the cyclic or linear oligomers having repeating units of 2-30 there; z "is a number from 0-6, and the group (Ar f z" Al 2 Q 1 6-z ") Which is either tri (fluoroarylaluminum), trialkylaluminum, or an adduct of tri (fluoroarylaluminum) with a less than stoichiometric to greater than stoichiometric amount of trialkylaluminum.
