abstract | (57) Abstract: An inner tube member forming a lumen, an outer tube member surrounding the inner member, and a support member disposed between the two tube members to provide rigidity to the flexible catheter Tube assembly for manufacturing a catheter of the type having The support member comprises a high tension wire blade, and in a preferred embodiment comprises a tempered or hardened wire blade. This high tensile strength provides the flexible catheter with significantly improved twist resistance. Certain wire blades have a tensile strength between 300 kpsi and 425 kpsi and a blade density of about 40 pic. Because of the drawback that high tension wire blades tend to spread at their free ends, means are provided to prevent the wire blade from spreading during manufacture of the tube assembly. One means is an adhesive used at the free end. Another means is a limiting sleeve applied over the free end. |
