abstract | Summary An apparatus for producing an inhalable aerosol by extrusion through a porous membrane by a motor driven cam assembly is disclosed. The device holds the formulation container (1) at the drug release position. The package is comprised of a crushable wall (2) having an opening and a cover for the opening including a porous membrane (302) having a plurality of holes with a pore size ranging from 0.5 microns to 6.0 microns. The electric motor (28) of the device is powered by a battery to rotate a cam (22) assembly having three cams. The first cam (44) presses the clamping member (configured to correspond to the outer periphery of the container) around the crushable wall (2) of the container (1), and the seam of the crushable wall The crushable wall seam is sealed to the cover of the container over its entire circumference, except for small unsealed parts. The second cam (22) crushes the crushable wall (2) and pushes the contents of the container through the unsealed portion of the seam. The third cam (53) operates to remove the empty container from the drug release position and at the same time move the new container (2) to this position. |
