titleOfInvention Methods and devices for treating cardiac arrhythmias
abstract (57) SUMMARY An implanted system for performing defibrillation or cardioversion of the heart of a patient in need of such treatment includes a plurality of primary electrodes (A50, B51), a power supply (shown in FIG. And a control circuit (inside (13)). Desirably, it also includes at least one auxiliary electrode (c25). The plurality of main electrodes (A50, B51) are configured to deliver a defibrillation pulse along a predetermined current path in a first portion of the heart (RV32), the current path comprising a cardiac path. Defines a weak field area in the second part (LV34) of the first embodiment. The at least one auxiliary electrode (C52) is configured to deliver an auxiliary pulse to a portion of the heart where the primary shock field intensity is at or near a minimum. The control circuit is operatively coupled to the main electrode (A50, B51), the auxiliary electrode (C52) and a power supply (not shown), and the control circuit passes through the auxiliary electrode (C52) in a weak field region. Defibrillation sequence that includes an auxiliary pulse (not shown) sufficient to induce a cessation in the propagation of the defibrillation pulse after the defibrillation pulse is transmitted in the weak field region. Is transmitted through the main electrodes (A50, B51) during the suspension of the propagation.
