| abstract | (57) [Summary] The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for setting data transfer parameters in a data transfer system. The invention is preferably used to change the channel configuration during a connection in a digital cellular system. One idea of the present invention is to devise a processing procedure for transferring connection parameters between a terminal device and a data transfer system during a data transfer connection (111-114). It is possible to change the channel configuration of a connection when needed, independent of the configuration selected at the time of establishing the connection. According to the solution of the invention, the data transfer connection is first set with parameters related to the voice connection (101-105) and the data transfer parameters are modified to be suitable for data transfer when needed during the voice connection. (111-114). No information is needed during call setup as to whether or not a data transfer connection may be used for data transfer. Furthermore, it is possible to test the operation of the various data transfer parameters in relation to the terminal used without disconnection. |
