(57) [Summary]nA method is disclosed for separating acids and sugars obtained from a liquid resulting from the acid hydrolysis of a substance containing at least one of cellulose and hemicellulose. This adds the liquid to a separation unit containing a bed of anion exchange or exclusion chromatographic material, whereby the acid is adsorbed to the chromatographic material, thereby producing a series of first fractions containing the sugar solution. And generating a subsequent series of fractions containing the aqueous solution and the acid solution. Also disclosed is a process for economical, energy efficient production of ethanol from municipal solid waste and other cellulosic feedstocks. |
