(57) [Summary]nIt is now shown that a hedgehog protein or mimetic has new activity beyond phenotypic specificity. Using cultures from abducted ventral midbrain of day 14.5 embryos (E14.5), we show that hedgehog or mimetics are trophic for dopaminergic neurons. Interestingly, hedgehog or mimetics not only promote the survival of dopaminergic neurons, but also the survival of midbrain GABA immunoreactive neurons (GABA-ir). |
