Secondary battery with high rate pulse capacity |
abstract |
(57) Abstract: A rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be discharged to supply a sufficiently high output pulse in an implantable defibrillation application or the like is described. The battery is housed in a case having an external volume of 5 cm 3 or less. Both the negative and positive electrodes have a total thickness of about 0.15 mm or less. The reduced thickness of the negative and positive electrodes provides a battery having a larger electrode surface area than its volume. In this way, the battery of the present invention can provide pulses in excess of 30 C with minimal voltage drop. |
