abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a finished appearance such as smoothness and a chipping resistance of a multilayer coating film formed by coating an electrodeposition coating material, an intermediate coating material, a top coating base material and a clear coating material. [Constitution] An electrodeposition coating material (A) is applied to an object to be coated, and the coating film is heated and cured. Then, an intermediate coating material (B), a top coating base coating material (C) and a clear coating material (D) are wet-on-wet. In the method of heating and simultaneously curing these three-layer coating films to form a multi-layer coating film, the electrodeposition paint (A) is used to form (a) a cyclic group on the hydroxyl group of the bisphenol-type epoxy resin. A resin obtained by reacting an ester compound, (B) a vinyl resin having a solubility parameter value of less than 9.6, Use of a cationic electrodeposition coating material containing (c) a polyalkylene glycol having a solubility parameter value of less than 9.6 and (d) a pigment component having an average particle size adjusted to 0.5 μm or less.
