abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a 2-alkyl-2-cycloalkenone by an industrially extremely simple method using a cycloalkanone and a saturated aliphatic aldehyde as starting materials. SOLUTION: A 2-alkyl-2-cycloalkenone is produced by using a mixture of a cycloalkanone and a saturated aliphatic aldehyde as a raw material and bringing the mixture into contact with a solid catalyst in a gas phase under heating. The preferred solid catalyst is at least one selected from the group consisting of a solid catalyst containing a phosphorus atom and crystalline aluminosilicate.
