abstract (57) [Summary] To provide a method and an apparatus for critical proximity alarm which can be easily back-fitted for monitoring occurrence of criticality in a fuel processing facility or the like. A neutron detector is disposed on one side of a fuel container and a source neutron reflector is disposed on the other side. A criticality monitoring neutron source insertion hole 6 is provided in the source neutron reflector 3, and a Cf-252 calibration radiation source is inserted into the insertion hole 6. (1) Basic formula of neutron source multiplication factor: φ 0 = a + b / (1- k) (Ratio of counting rates at two points across time) (2) Formula for periodically changing the water level of the reflector, time derivative: φ 1 / φ 0 -1 = [Δk / (1-k) 0)] if (3) k 0 of the differential: φ 1 -φ 0 = bΔk / (1-k 0) 2 to generate a plurality of alarms combined appropriately to.
