abstract | (57) [Summary] (Modified) [PROBLEMS] To provide a method for selectively producing a biphenyl derivative using inexpensive raw materials. SOLUTION: A compound of the general formula (1) is reacted with a compound of the general formula (2) or (3) in the presence of a condensing agent, and then a cyclization reaction is performed to obtain a cyclohexenone derivative. After synthesizing and further performing a dehydrogenation reaction to obtain a halophenyl derivative, a dehalogenation reaction is performed to produce a biphenyl derivative of the general formula (8). (Wherein X represents a substituent such as H, OH, a substitutable alkyl group, alkenyl group, or alkynyl group, and Y represents CO 2 R 6 , CN, NO 2 , SO 3 R 6 , SO 2 NR 4 R 5 , SOR 6 , SO 2 R 6 are shown, and R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are H, a substitutable alkyl group or a phenyl group may form a ring of 4 to 7 with R 4 and R 5 , and n represents 1 to 5. ) |
