(57) Abstract: Provided are a glycol ether compound having a high detergency and a narrower addition mole number distribution when blended in a detergent, a method for producing the same, and a detergent composition. An alkylene oxide represented by the following formula (1), which has a different number of moles of alkylene oxide added, wherein the weight% occupied by one having no added mole number of alkylene oxide shows the maximum value without showing the maximum value. When the weight% of the adduct is 15-35 and the average number of moles of the alkylene oxide added is p, the total amount of the alkylene oxide adducts having the number of added moles (p-2) to (p + 2) is 70-95. %. In particular, the compound of the present invention can be obtained efficiently and rationally by using a composite metal oxide catalyst to which one or two or more metals containing MgO as a main component is added.
