abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a process for producing 2-chloro-4-nitroalkylbenzene which can industrially carry out nuclear chlorination of 4-nitroalkylbenzene with high selectivity. SOLUTION: 4-Nitroalkylbenzene is subjected to nuclear chlorination in a liquid phase using elemental chlorine or a compound which releases chlorine in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and a diarylsulfide cocatalyst.
