titleOfInvention | Liquid crystal optical element and manufacturing method thereof |
abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel liquid crystal optical element having a low driving voltage, excellent hysteresis characteristics, and high reflectivity, and capable of multicolor display with one display pixel. It is to provide. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal material 6 is provided between substrates 2 and 9 having electrodes which are processed to vertically align the liquid crystal material. Is interposed between the liquid crystal layers. A small amount of the polymer material 5 is dispersed in the liquid crystal layer. When no voltage is applied, the device is in a transparent state because all the liquid crystal materials 6 are aligned in the vertical direction. When a voltage is applied, the liquid crystal material 6 has a negative dielectric anisotropy and thus tends to be perpendicular to the direction of the electric field, but a part of the liquid crystal material 6 may move due to binding by the polymer material 5. Can not. Since the polymer material 5 is periodically dispersed, the wavelength of light resulting from the periodic interval is selectively reflected. |
