titleOfInvention | Solution polymerization method of ethylene-α-olefin / diolefin polymer |
abstract | The present invention involves contacting ethylene, one or more α-olefin monomers, and optionally one or more diene monomers with a catalyst system comprising a catalyst activator and a Group 4 metallocene compound. A solution process for the production of an ethylene-α-olefin / diolefin copolymer, comprising: a) conducting the polymerization reaction at about 60 to 150 ° C .; b) forming a cyclic monocyclopentadienyl tertiary compound as a Group 4 metallocene compound. Selecting one or more compounds from the group consisting of Group 4 metallocene compounds and covalently bridged (bis) indenyl hafnium metallocene compounds; and c) adjusting the α-olefin concentration to a molar ratio of ethylene to ethylene of about 0.3 to 7.0. And maintaining the molar ratio of diolefin to ethylene between about 0.01 and 0.4. In a preferred embodiment, the process of the present invention comprises: 1) mixing together the reaction solvent and one or more α-olefin monomers, optionally one or more diene monomers, and a catalyst activator, Thereafter, 2) the reaction solvent and an effective scavenger compound are combined with the activator compound within about 1 minute before or simultaneously with the introduction of the unactivated Group 4 metallocene compound. Mixing under contacting conditions and 3) contacting the activator compound with an unactivated Group 4 metallocene compound in the presence of said monomer. The process is advantageously carried out at a reaction temperature of at least 60 ° C., preferably at a reaction temperature of more than 80 ° C., most preferably at a reaction temperature of more than 110 ° C. to obtain a high diene conversion and a high α-olefin monomer and diene monomer. High number average molecular weight polymers having a content can be achieved. This method is particularly suitable for producing elastomeric ethylene-propylene or ethylene-propylene-gen monomer elastomers. |
