titleOfInvention Orthopedic casting articles having soft and hard regions
abstract (57) SUMMARY The present invention provides an orthopedic casting article having a soft end. In one embodiment, the article comprises a flexible sheet material impregnated or coated with two different resins. In an alternative embodiment, the article includes an extruded sheet material that includes two different extruded materials. One of the resin or extruded material is softer and more elastic than the other resin or material. By selectively providing a softer material in a defined area of the article, the hardness of that area can be adjusted. The article may be in the form of a shaping casting tape that includes a longitudinally impregnated or coated fabric backing material with two different curable resins. The longitudinally extending central region of the fabric backing was coated with the harder first curable resin and extended in the longitudinal direction of the fabric backing with the softer second curable resin. Coat at least one edge region. When wrapped around the limb, the soft end regions overlap to form a soft and comfortable end in the hardened cast.
