titleOfInvention How to adjust drilling conditions applied to well bits
abstract (57) [Summary]nA method for adjusting the drilling conditions applied to a given well bit includes testing the geological compressive strength of the section drilled by the bit. A critical bit structure of the same size and design as the predetermined bit analyzes wear after drilling material having a compressive strength that is approximately the same as the tested compressive strength, along with each drilling data for the worn structure. From the analysis, a power limit is determined for each of the compressive strengths, which is an upper limit at which the potential for excessive wear of the undesired bit increases. Drilling conditions, such as the rotational speed and bit load at which a given bit operates, are adjusted to maintain the desired power operation below the power limit. These conditions are optimized if the desired operating power is obtained from several possible rotational speed / bit load combinations.
