abstract | (57) [Summary]nA process for preparing ε-caprolactam by cyclizing 6-aminocaproic acid in an aqueous mixture at elevated temperature, starting from a liquid aqueous mixture comprising alcohol and 6-aminocaproic acid. Before the cyclisation, the alcohol is separated from the aqueous starting mixture to such an extent that the concentration of alcohol in the aqueous mixture during the cyclisation is less than 1% by weight. This has the effect of reducing the amount of undesirable by-products. |
