| abstract | (57) Abstract: A method and apparatus for accessing a database system, wherein the database system includes an entry each including a plurality of fields including a machine representation of an item of information belonging to the entry, wherein the representation is a first one. A database forming a vocabulary of said display, output means for generating a signal representative of the machine display in response to a machine display entering a second vocabulary of such display, and receiving a signal to generate a signal representing said display. Input means operable to generate a machine display that enters the vocabulary of the third aspect. The method of accessing the database system comprises the steps of: (i) according to a defined relationship between the first vocabulary and the third vocabulary, for each display generated by the input means, one or more according to the first vocabulary. Generating a display; (ii) identifying a database entry containing the generated display; and (iii) each display or set of displays included in a selected field or combination of fields of the identified entry.
