(57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to an improved lubricating oil dispersant comprising a fractionated polymer prepared prior to functionalization (eg, in a Koch reaction) for the preparation of the dispersant. In one aspect, the amount of light ester impurities generated is minimized by fractionating the polymer to remove light and unreacted hydrocarbons from the polymer prior to the Koch reaction carbonylation step. Was found. Light esters are undesirable by-products that adversely affect catalyst recycling from the Koch reaction functionalization step. The present invention also relates to an improved nitrogen-containing dispersant for lubricating oils derived from the fractionated polymer. |
