abstract (57) [Summary] New liquid crystalline compounds having high elastic constant ratio and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds, especially at low temperatures, and being chemically stable, or large positive dielectric anisotropy Provided is a liquid crystal compound having a characteristic value, an extremely high specific resistance (high voltage holding ratio), good UV stability, and high compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds at a low temperature, and a liquid crystal composition containing these compounds. I do. The liquid crystal compound has the following general formula (I) [In the formula, R 1 is an alkyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, a cyano group, a halogen atom or a halogenated alkyl or alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R 2 is an alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms. Wherein A 1 , A 2 , A 3 and A 4 each independently represent a 1,4-phenylene group or a 1,4-cyclohexylene group, and Z 1 , Z 2 and Z 3 each independently represent a covalent bond , —CH 2 CH 2 —, —CH = CH—, —C≡C— or —COO—, l and m each represent 0 or 1, and n represents 0 to 10.] The product contains the above liquid crystalline compound.
