(57) Abstract The present invention relates to a method for inhibiting p185neu tyrosine kinase, a gene product of the neu oncogene. Overexpression of the neo oncogene leads to chemoresistance. The disclosed method involves a novel use of emodin in combination with a chemotherapeutic agent for treating cancer. In addition, emodin surprisingly enhances the antitumor effects of chemotherapeutic agents. We propose that emodin sensitizes cancer cells so that they become amenable to treatment with chemotherapeutic agents. |
