abstract | (57) Abstract: A system and method for providing a flash EPROM with a constant electric field that is unaffected by power supply fluctuations during erasing. The system includes a plurality of sector source drivers and a constant current source that is not affected by a power supply. Each sector has at least one binary storage element. Each storage element has a source. The sector source driver couples at least one source of the sector to be erased to a power-insensitive constant current source. A power supply independent constant current source provides a constant electric field across the tunnel oxide that is unaffected by power supply fluctuations. This improves the wear characteristics and life of the binary storage element. In addition, this system eliminates problems with short channel effects, electron traps, and the use of various voltage sources. |
