titleOfInvention Improved process for producing diacetate of polytetramethylene ether
abstract (57) [Summary]nTetrahydrofuran (THF), optionally with one or more comonomers (eg, 3-methyl THF, ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, etc.), and a solid acid catalyst [eg, NafionĀ®] and carboxylic anhydride as a molecular weight regulator Involves the polymerization using a carboxylic acid with the product (eg, acetic acid with acetic anhydride), by setting the reactor pressure while simultaneously operating under solvent / monomer evaporative reaction conditions. An improved process for producing diesters of polytetramethylene ether, wherein achieving heat removal effectively controls the reaction temperature. Such a method is useful for producing high purity commercial grade PTMEA which advantageously avoids the problems caused by high heats of reaction when the method is scaled up to commercial levels.
