(57) [Problem] To provide an optical signal source capable of independently controlling frequency and output power. An optical signal source for use with an optical amplifier unit that amplifies a WDM optical signal is disclosed. The optical signal source has an independently controllable frequency and output power. The optical signal source has a power output that is controlled on a time scale that is fast enough to compensate for variations in the input signal to the amplifier. The optical frequency is determined by the optical amplifier characteristics and W The value is stabilized to a predictable value for the DM optical signal band. |
