titleOfInvention Monostable ferroelectric liquid crystal display
abstract (57) [Problem] To realize a monostable mode and improve the stability of monostable. SOLUTION: A pair of substrates subjected to a uniaxial orientation treatment are arranged so as to face each other so that the orientation treatment directions are substantially parallel to each other, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal material having a chiral smectic C phase is filled between the substrates. The projected component of the cone drawn by the liquid crystal molecules of the ferroelectric liquid crystal material on the substrate in the axial direction and the projected component of the liquid crystal molecules themselves on the substrate in the molecular axis direction almost coincide with the alignment processing direction of the substrate. The state is monostable as an initial state. The ferroelectric liquid crystal material is a liquid crystal composition containing a compound in which alkyl chains are bonded to both ends of a tricyclic biphenylpyrimidine skeleton and at least one of the alkyl chains has an even carbon number.
